Right now you may be thinking OK my child has just been assigned to Mrs. Corbitt's second grade class and I don't know anything about her (except that she's on maternity leave). Well I would like to alleviate any concerns and answer any questions you may have.
You may be wondering about my educational background. Just in case here it is. I graduated summa cum laude with my B.A. degree from the University of North Florida in 2003. I earned my National Board Certification in 2007. In 2010 I completed my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Reading from Grand Canyon University. Just last year I was part of the curriculum writing team for math in our district.
Now you may be thinking that's all good and well, but what about your teaching information. This is my fourteenth year teaching. I began back in August of 2003 as a Kindergarten teacher. I spent three years in "K" before looping with my class up to 1st grade. I then spent four years in 1st before being asked to go to 3rd grade. I spent three years in 3rd before looping with my class up to 4th grade. The last three years have been in the 4th grade. I say all of that to tell you I know where your child has been and what he/she should know and be able to do independently and I know where he/she is going. This is the best of both worlds!!!
Let's address the "elephant in the room." Yes, I am going to be on maternity leave for the first part of the school year. However, I plan on being in close contact with the substitute that is teaching in my absence. After all your children are in MY class and I, just like you, want what is best for them. The best way to contact me will be by email. You can email me at corbittn@duvalschools.org and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
I am very much looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year and I hope that you are too!!!
