Super Scientists

"The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers; he's one who asks the right questions." - Claude Lèvi-Strauss, Le Cru et le cuit, 1964

What's hoppin'?

Week 24:  We will finish up learning about mass and its properties this week

Week 23:  We will finish up our experiment this week of determining how the mass compares when the volumes are equal.

Week 22:  We did not get to our experiment last week.  But I can’t wait to get to it this week!

Week 21:  This week we will use the measurement skills that we are learning in math to help us with another science experiment.

Week 20:  Science is back!  We will be learning all about the properties of matter with a few fun experiments, one that is even yummy!

Week 19:  Science is still on a short break.  When it returns we will begin looking at the properties of matter.

Week 18:  Science is still on a short break.

Week 17:  We will take a short break from space-not to worry we will return back to this topic later in the year.

Week 16:  Reading in the content area (Science and Social Studies) is a very important skill.  This is why this week we will continue learning about stars and how we observe them in our textbook.

Week 15:  This week we will begin learning about stars and how we observe them.  We will also look at different patterns that are repeated every day and others that are repeated every year.

Week 14:  We are ready to move on to a new chapter in science.  We will be gearing up for stars and gravity.  There is a lot of information to learn about stars and gravity.  We will be busy learning all kinds of new and exciting things during this topic!

Week 13:  We are almost ready to return to science.  We will begin our unit on space after the Thanksgiving break.

Week 12:  This week we will be focusing our time our social studies from now until Thanksgiving.  Not to worry, we will return to science right after the Thanksgiving holiday break. :)

Week 11:  We have been learning a lot about animals and are ready to take our test!  In our next chapter we will learn about space.

Week 10:  We have been learning a lot about animals.  We have learned about vertebrates and invertebrates.  This week our focus will be on animal life cycles and animal adaptations.

Week 9: This week we will continue our animal chapter.  We will look at the life cycles of animals.  Some of the animals that we will look at include both the butterfly and the frog.

Week 8: This week we will begin our animal chapter.  We will learn about vertebrates and invertebrates.  We will even look at the life cycles of animals and how they are the same or different.

Week 7: Now that we are finished with plants we will be starting our new chapter on animals-late this week.  We will be spending a good amount of time on this chapter because there is a lot of great information to be learned.

Week 6: This week we will wrap up our plant unit.  We will use our science leveled readers to learn more about plants before moving on to a new topic.  We will continue to watch our lima beans as we wait to see if there are any other "needs" besides soil that a plant can go without and still germinate.

Week 5: Just when we were about to give up on our seeds . . . they started to germinate!  This week we will continue to watch our radish, corn, sunflower, and pinto bean seeds, as well as our lima bean seeds.  We will also begin reading about plants in our science textbooks.

Week 4: What a bummer we were not able to see the germination process in our corn, radish, sunflower, or pinto bean seeds-oh well.  We are now on to a different experiment, which will hopefully yield much better results.  This time we will be watching the lima bean seed.  Wish us luck!

Week 3: This week we will continue observing and recording those observations of our seed experiment.  We are hoping to watch the germination process (although nothing has happened yet).

Week 2: This week we will continue learning about plants as we go into a week long study of the germination of several different seeds.  We will set up our experiment on Tuesday and then continue observing and recording those observations for the rest of the week.

Week 1: This week we will begin our plant unit.  Last week we were able to use our five senses during writing to observe our world around us.  This week we will use those same senses to observe, describe, and record our noticings of the leaves that were collected.  This students will even make a flip book to show what they know!
